- Modern books (from known manufacturers) manufactured for use by children today are generally safe from a Lead-perspective.
- Books from unknown manufacturers (vs. those made and / or sold by known major U.S. retailers) — especially books that have non-paper components — may test positive for unsafe and illegal levels of Lead in the non-paper components (example here from 2006).
- Please avoid pre-1980 books with your children and if you want to be extra safe, stick with books printed after 2011 (after the Consumer Product Safety improvement Act of 2008 became fully enforceable for all product categories).
